WINTER PERKS : Free Snowshoe Rental with Tours
As long as there is snow on the ground, Glensheen will continue to offer complimentary snowshoeing to tour guests. With February on track to be the snowiest month in years, there is plenty of fluffy white stuff to play in for snowshoeing on the estate. During Glensheen tour hours of 9:00 am — 5:00 pm, guests who have purchased a tour ticket may also borrow a pair of snowshoes to explore the estate.
There are various sizes available, even for the miniature snowshoer. Snowshoeing makes a perfect pairing with the self-guided General Admission tour. Warm up in the mansion after frolicking about the 12-acre estate.
If guests would like to simply rent a pair of snowshoes and not take a tour, they may purchase a Grounds Pass for $5 in the Glensheen Ticket House.
Zenith City on Tap
Every Wednesday in February Glensheen presents Zenith City On Tap, a series of talks on the history of Duluth by author and historian Tony Dierckins, publisher of Duluth’s Zenith City Press.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the presentation starts at 7:00 pm. Local beer and wine available for purchase.
February 6: Becoming the Twin Ports: Duluth & Superior, 1855–1910
The region known today as “The Northland” was called the “Head of Lakes” for much of its early history. Superior, Wisconsin, and Duluth, Minnesota, competed to see which community would emerge as the nation’s most important inland port.
February 13: For the People, By the People: Duluth’s Park System, 1889–2019
Pioneers of the Zenith City first began platting small parks — or “public squares” — as early as 1856, but it wasn’t until the city’s first Board of Park Commissioners formed in 1889 that Duluth laid out a plan to develop the remarkable parks system it enjoys today.
February 20: Duluth’s 1889 City Hall and Its Mayors
This presentation reaches beyond the architecture of this brownstone jewel to introduce the audience to the twelve mayors that served within its walls from 1889 to 1929 and their impact on the history of the Zenith City, then traces the building’s tenant history to today and explores the many myths and legends surrounding this iconic structure.
February 27: Naturally Better: 150 Years of Brewing Beer with Lake Superior Water
This presentation covers the history of making beer in Duluth and Superior — both the oldest and newest industry in the Twin Ports — from the pioneer days of the 1860s through the 20th century’s four major breweries (Fitger’s, People’s, Northern, Duluth Brewing & Malting) and on to the craft brewers of today, explaining why Lake Superior is the key ingredient to making naturally better beer.

Fridays and Saturdays
Jan. 18 — Mar. 16
7:00 pm — 9:00 pm
Flashlight Tours are back… with a twist. First, you will need to be 21 or older to be on the tour. This is not a tour for kids. As part of your cost for admission, guests will receive a branded Glensheen Flashlight Tour pint glass with… a sippy cup cover. The cover allows you to bring your glass and alcoholic beverage INSIDE the mansion.
What else is new? The addition of Glensheen’s newest space available to the public for tour — The Carriage House Living Room. Here, guests will enjoy the warmth of a live fire — the only working fireplace on the estate.
Please purchase 21+ Flashlight Tours in advance at glensheen.org. Tour times available 7:00 pm — 9:00 pm.
We also added 21+ Flashlight Tours on Thursday, February 14th for Valentine’s Day. So join us for a unique, out-of-the-box date idea. Make it a different kind of date night. Or bring your girlfriends for a Galentines celebration.
